Quick Apply Part-time 14 hours ago Full Job Description General Purpose - Under the direction of the Water Treatment Plant Operator, operators and maintains the facilities of the water system; inspects and performs repair work on water facilities and equipment; monitors and maintains water sources, storage tanks, keeps various records pertaining to water system operations, dams, reservoirs and watershed.
Supervision Received and Exercised - Works under the direct supervision of the Water Treatment Plant Superintendent.
Position Characteristics - This position is capable of performing tasks ensuring that the public and co-workers receive the highest standards of public service.
Responsibilities include performing technical work independently in day-to-day situations.
Supervision is provided in difficult and unusual situations.
The position has highly technical aspects, requiring the interpretation and application of departmental; policies, procedures, state and federal environmental regulations and may involve public contact.
Required Knowledge and Abilities - Above average skills and abilities to perform complex functions and duties in a responsible manner with minimal supervision; Knowledge of principles and practices of water system operations as would be acquired through certification as a Water System Operator (distribution system or plant); Operating principles of valves, pumps, motors and various types of electric and electronic equipment; Safe work practices in the water plant and in repair or water lines, and/or service lines; The appropriate use of hand and power tools used in the maintenance and repair of plant equipment; Ability to operate, repair and maintain water plant facilities, equipment and water lines and services; Read and interpret gauges and other recording devices reflecting water system operations; Perform various laboratory test and document the results of the same; Train others in procedures of water system operations.
Essential Functions Produces potables water for the Village of Cadiz in accordance with all state and federal regulations.
Monitors and accurately reads gages, flowmeters, charts, systems controls, water sondes, that depict and/or record data Conducts water analysis tests such as hardness, alkalinity, PH, turbidity, chlorine residual, etc.
, for treatment control.
Services, maintains, and repairs a variety of water system equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, filters, and meters.
Determine chemical feed rates and adjust chemical dosages with approval of a Class 3 operator Determine and maintain proper flow rates in accordance with water consumption demand Backwash filters as needed or directed Conduct water analysis tests to ensure safety and water quality by collecting representative water samples and testing for contaminants and properties such as color, odor, chlorine levels, nitrification, etc.
Ensures that plant operations are in compliance with operating guidelines and that treated water is safe and acceptable upon entering the distribution system.
Inspects water system equipment and facilities to perform preventative maintenance, locate needed repairs, and makes repairs to various water system equipment as required, including water mains and water connections.
Inspects and maintains water distribution facilities.
Keeps records and prepares necessary reports.
Assists in the training of other water department personnel.
Collects samples and assists in conducting a variety of chemical and physical tests.
Maintains clear and concise logs and records.
Inspects water sources and water storage tanks.
Performs general plant maintenance work such as sweeping, cleaning painting, and landscaping.
Operates a front-end loader and other vehicles.
Ability to work with electrical testing equipment, grinders, torches, hammers, pneumatic chipping tools, motor vehicles, face shields, gloves, goggles, laboratory meters and equipment, shovels, rakes, wrenches, chain saw, calculator, electric meters.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience - High school education or equivalent.
Any combination of experience and training which will provide the necessary knowledge, skills and ability to perform position tasks.
Must have a State of Ohio Class 3 Water Plant Operator license at time of appointment.
Must have a valid Ohio Driver's License.
Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Physical Demands - Constant exposure to sun, working in low temperatures and high humidity environment, exposure to loud noise and vibration, walking on slippery and hard surfaces, exposure to airborne dust, bending kneeling, squatting; frequent walking on uneven surfaces, uses sense of vision, hearing and smell to diagnose problems, work on ladders and structures up to 48 feet in height, work in confined space or cramped body position; lifting of items weighting up to 75pounds.
